WAMP, LAMP, MAMP and XAMPP acts as local servers which are used to develop PHP website on localhost. The primary difference between WAMP, LAMP, MAMP and XAMPP is of the operating system. WAMP is used for Windows, LAMP for Linux, MAMP for Mac and XAMPP can be used for any operating system. WAMP is used for Windows operating system only. You may have created http/https hosts using MAMP PRO 4. In MAMP PRO 4 this was done by creating two hosts with the same host name, using the same document root. In MAMP PRO 6 a series of digits will be appended to the second host. Your SSL tab has more information about http/https hosts.
Install Composer
You can setup a host to use Composer in a few steps. Information on downloading Composer can be found here. Click on the “Composer-Setup.exe” in the Windows Installer section. This should download an “Composer-Setup” file to your downloads folder.
Click on the Composer-Setup and you will be guided through the installation. Proxy settings will not be covered in this How-To.
- May 23, 2013 MAMP: Stands for 'Mac OS X, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.' MAMP is a variation of the LAMP software package that can be installed on Mac OS X. It can be used to run a live web server from a Mac, but is most commonly used for web development and local testing purposes.
- MAMP PRO is a configuration application that helps you set up and run the Apache or Nginx web servers and the MySQL 5.7 database server. It also takes care of the configuration of different versions of PHP. MAMP PRO also comes with a text editor, and built in functionality to move your site to a remote host provider.
- MAMP PRO comes with extra features, allowing you to create a separate hosting environment for each web project and import existing WordPress sites from live servers. Once your design work is completed, you can also publish projects directly from MAMP PRO to your live server.
Point to the version of PHP you would like to install Composer for.
The installation wizard will finish the installation.
Confirm you have properly installed Composer by typing “composer –v” on the command line.
